Discovery Bay Golf Course Adds New “Silver” Tees
WSGA re-evaluates course and issues new Ratings and Slope
Last spring, Discovery Bay Golf Course added new silver tees to its blue, white, gold and red tees. They were temporary until the course received its new evaluation from the Washington State Golf Association on September 1, 2017. The ratings are in, and golfers using the silver tees may now post their scores.
The addition of the silver tees is intended for make golf a friendlier game for many. They can be used by anyone, but beginners, juniors, senior men and women will find them most beneficial. They will shorten the game, not only in distance, but also in time. For instance, the distance from the silver tees for 18 holes is only 3800 yards, compared to the white tees, which is 6024 yards.
The ratings and slopes for the other tees were revised as well, mostly with minor adjustments. The slope for the men from the white tees rose from 120 to 123, while the slope for the women from the red tees rose from 116 to 119. The biggest difference from the red tees is that Hole #4 will now be a par 4 for women as well as men. Previously it was a par 5 for women.
Discovery Bay will continue to use the old score cards through the fall and winter, but the new rating and slope sheets are posted near the GHIN computer. New cards with the revised yardage, ratings and slope will be published in the spring of 2018.
